Your mind tells you that something must be done, something effective and it shouldn’t be wasted on just eating and nothing else. Maybe opening your computer and watch..anything, Let’s Reach out for your phone and open instagram, great! The importance of this activity is often neglected to a guilty feeling of emptiness and therefore supplied with different distractions. Why is that? Is it possible to spend time focusing on one thing only? The reason you might find this need for distraction comes from this horrible trend known as multitasking.
You may be able to do more than one thing at a time, but you certainly are not giving your best at each task. You must divide your attention and by doing that, nothing will be done perfectly. But that’s the aim right? To do your best and know that you didn’t miss any detail. Let’s think about what you are really doing in this case. It is a big satisfying moment for your body and it deserves your minds full attention. Don’t worry if there is nobody around to share this feeling with you. It is unique to everyone’s experience and it is a time of full enjoyment. You deserved it. The so called “Lunch Break” is supposed to be that longing moment you’ve been waiting for. It must have that name for a good reason. Time to take a break and do something pleasurable. Why not Calm your Mind with the pleasure Eating?
In this particular moment you are in profound appreciation. I Invite you to enjoy with your eyes, visually eating you food. There is a lot there to observe and make sure not to miss noticing shapes, arrangements and colours on display that you will soon, make disappear. You are focussed at this instant – you begin to attentively prepare the portion you will next eat. The fork and knife are beautifully constructing the perfect composition for your next longing bite. That glimpse of joy you are about to give yourself a small amount of pleasure! Very exciting moments!
Are you aware of these sensations?
Before you start bringing the next bite in, put the utensils down. Finish to chew what you still have in your mouth, let your mouth enjoy it too. Then swallow. Wait. Pause for a moment. Start again and Act as if you will commence to eat now. Experience each step one moment at a time. You are consciously giving your body the necessary replenishment. In that mindful chewing and appreciation of different textures flavours, spices and taste, there is a tender sensation of sudden bliss happening in your mouth and acknowledging what it is receiving in a delicate and enthusiastic way.
Recall the origin of you food and be gratefull
Another step before you start; Appreciate for a moment the beautiful creation you proudly have in front of you; Think about the origins of all elements in this plate. How did they get here, who carried it over and over, before you got your hands on it? How far did it travel? A lot of things happened before it was ready for you. Have you ever thought about everyone who participated in that process? Be thankful for them.
Comprehend the story behind each component of this meal on your table. Go beyond the supermarket shelves, Far away …imagine the seeds being carefully planted, and how it was nourished by the sun. How the rain made it grow and how the wind moved its leaves. Imagine a young calf being born, the comfort next to his nourished mother, how he jumped through green fields with ease and joy. All that happened so that you can benefit from it right now.
Join the moment cycle
Have you ever noticed when eating with a group, friends and family that sudden Silence on the table? When the food arrives, you prepare yourself, sit up straight and all conversations magically comes to an end? Everything else becomes less important? Nothing needs to be said? Time stays still and the chattering in our minds disappear. On such occasions, observe this blink of a mutual awareness. It’s the spirit of contentment translated into silence. Beautiful.Take a moment to observe that joyous silence yourself. A silence that cannot be put into words. Just allow everything you feel in that moment to resonate so you appreciate the magnitude of it all. Everything that matters now is right in front of you, and there should be no feeling in you other than being grateful for this small great pleasure in life.It can be taken as a true form of meditative awareness, while you consciously are giving your body spoon by spoon its energy back as a continuous loving circle. How often has it happened to you that you look down and your plate is already empty? Is that food gone already? What Being ‘gone’ really means it that, you missed the happening of it. By not paying attention, you are in danger of missing out and this becoming a regular occurence.
Focus on the task at hand
The word Sin has is roots in the meaning of missing out. Think about it. By being aware of what you are doing you will never have to worry because you did not miss a single moment. You were fully present watching everything happen and where part of it all. There cannot be any chattering coming from the mind, because this instant belong to your awareness, and time belongs to the NOW living moment. Everything is still and clear. There is peace and you will find yourself in command of yourself.
At this time and these moments remain calm and be aware of everything. It is a gift for your body, let him enjoy it with you. You are acting for your soul! Every bite matters,
